Transmissions are FM. Ground stations repeat the airborne
half of the conversation, and transmit a continuous tone when
idle. From one to four channels are assigned in a particular
area.
Service is used on private aircraft.

Transmissions are AM (or AM/SSB), and converting to digital.
Channels are spaced 6 kHz apart. A specific block of 29 channels
is assigned to each geographical area. Ground frequencies are 45
MHz lower and do not echo the airborne half of the conversation.
Service is used on passenger airlines.

Freqs in the 470-512 MHz range (Ch 14-20) may be assigned to
Public Service mobile use in major metro areas. No transmitters
are allowed on 608-614 MHz (Ch 37).
Each TV channel is 6 MHz wide. The video carrier is 1.25 MHz
above the start of the range. The audio carrier is 0.25 MHz below
the end of the range. Television audio is wideband FM.
Some TV stations may be offset +/- 10 kHz.

The FRS was adopted on 10 May 96 and will be authorized
by July 96. It uses FM with a peak deviation of +/- 2.5 kHz.
Maximum power is 0.5w.
